Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Capture The Flag?
Capture The Flag (CTF) is a popular cybersecurity competition format where participants accumulate points by solving challenges and locating hidden flags. Our edition of Yes We Code CTF focuses on programming rather than cybersecurity.
When is it happening?
The event kicks off on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, running from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM (Paris time). You can check your local time using this website.
Can I participate if I'm not available for the entire event?
The event runs from 7 PM to 11:30 PM. Even if you can't be present at the start or the end, we still encourage your participation. You can complete smaller challenges and contribute points to your team.
Where will it happen?
Anyone from anywhere can participate!
If feasible and based on the number of participants, you may be able to join the event directly at the office. Reach out to your office manager (and us) if you're interested!
In-office gathering location:
- Hem, France
Alternatively, joining remotely is, of course, an option.
How to win points?
To earn points, you must solve challenges and uncover their corresponding flags! We've crafted a multitude of challenges to assess a range of skills, categorized into four levels of difficulty. Below are the associated points for each level.
Level | Count | Points |
---|---|---|
1 | 8 | 100 |
2 | 9 | 250 |
3 | 3 | 750 |
4 | 2 | 1500 |
Total | 22 |
How do I create or join a team?
Each team member needs to have an account. One member should create the team and can either invite others using an invitation link or share the team name and password.
Is a team required to have four members? Can I participate solo without teammates?
This edition of YesWeCode emphasizes teamwork. You have the option to participate individually or form a team of up to four members. Remember, the objective is to accumulate the highest number of points by solving as many challenges as possible, so having a team may be necessary if you want to win.
I'm looking for a team/teammates?
If you are looking for a team or teammates, contact us, we will try to find a solution for you!
What programming language do I need?
You are free to use any programming language you want/love!
Can I use ChatGPT or similar technologies?
While it may be tempting, you are not allowed to use LLMs for this edition. We want you to code, not copy-paste ChatGPT ;-)
Team ranking
Teams are ranked based on their points, with higher scores placed first. In case of a tie, the team that achieved their score the fastest will be ranked higher.
I need help!
If you are stuck in a challenge, ask for help from your teammates (sorry we will not be able to help you). However, if instructions are unclear, or if you think you have found a flag but it's not accepted on the website, you can contact us via Teams (Antoine Honoré, Gabriel Loiseau or Damien Riquet), we'll try to see what is going on.
Code of conduct
Obviously, no cheating. If you get caught, your entire team will be disqualified. Also, if you break any rules from the IT Charter, we may have to report it.
